A catch up from the world of Simo
By Annie Simpson - Horizon Fitness Racing Team
It's been a while since I’ve filled you all in on the world of Simo, and a lot has been going on! Too much for me to remember really, but I’ll do my best!
Returning from Belgium has been harder than I thought it would be, trying to get back into a routine and trying to get my head back in gear to tackle pointless things like Metabolic Biochemistry! And after nearly 6 weeks now, I’d say I'm just about there! Better late than never hey!
A fair few weeks back now, I travelled down to the bike show in London to meet up with Stef and Helen (they can't get rid of me!), team mate Ella, Stuart, and the Horizon Fitness guys! It was great to finally meet a lot of the sponsors that have supported our team so well in 2010! I probably didn't make the best impression due to a severe lack of voice, which for a motor mouth like me, was mortifying! Jokes quickly turned to it being because of alcohol consumption due to me being a student! So I'm going to take this opportunity to set the record straight, that I am shadow of my former party animal self, and I have barely been out (in comparison to last year) since I've returned to Newcastle! Some would say I am a changed girl, some wouldn't, but either way I'm trying my best!
So, at the bike show I got roped into taking part in the Horizon Fitness Indoor Triathlon, which involved a row, a cycle and a run! I found the whole thing hilarious and swore that I wasnt going to try, as no way did I want to sweat with all the male cyclist eye candy around! But as soon as it started, my competitive nature totally kicked in, and I tried my very hardest. I didn't win, which I'm still pretty sore about! But it was nice to see the whole event kept Stef and Stuart very much entertained!
Training is going pretty well at the moment… I'm getting in a lot of long rides with the local club run Gosforth CC, and for more banterous rides, I turn to the Northumbria University cycling club. My uni timetable is pretty sweet, as I have no lectures Wednesdays and Fridays, so got plenty of time to bash out the miles! This is obviously weather permitting as Newcastle at present seems to have its own micro climate, which is Baltic, with the added hurricane thrown in, and no, I'm not exaggerating! I also have got a strength and conditioning programme which I attend once a week, which is currently killing me, but I’m told it will get better… I’ll soon have abs of steel and a core to die for! Uni work is a pain; I feeling like everything I’m learning is pointless. Currently writing an assignment on the Cabbage Soup Diet… not worth trying people! I have also managed to bag myself a job somehow after having no experience in anything! I'm working as a waitress in an upmarket pub. In brief, uniform is embarassing, tips are amazing, my feet ache just thinking about a shift, but at least over xmas I can roll in the money!
In just over a week I'm heading back out to Belgium to visit Stef and Helen, and spectate at a few cyclo cross races… Hopefully Helen will pull her finger out and win some flowers for once!!!
haha just kidding Wyman - you're my idol! The Oudenaarde house will have been far too quiet since I left, and needs a good injection of Simo haha! It will be nice to get away from Newcastle for a long weekend!
Then when I return, up steps the training and roll on 2011!
Thanks for reading.
