Winning, crashing & exams!
By Hannah Rich - Horizon Fitness Racing Team
After Bedford I had to get back into a routine of riding my bike and training...something which I never find easy. Training doesn't come easy to me as a bike rider I'm much more of a racer I would even go as far to say I used to hate training...so to say I was looking forward to racing at the weekend was an understatement! Over the past months I've learn to enjoy my training, especially when the company is good. I rode the Abergavenny handicap which is a local men's race close by where I live and to be fair it was a bit of a nightmare as I raced for no more than 10mins and I was on the floor; not the best start!
With a trip to hospital (which I was not looking forward to) as I thought I broke something in my hand it wasn't really the race I was looking to have. On a plus side Dani King won the bunch sprint! After a long wait in the hospital I got told I had broken nothing and I had to man up and take some parecetamol whereas I thought I needed morphine...slight difference in opinion! Personally I think the morphine was the least dramatic option J
After milking the sympathy from my mum for the night it was back to training and college for me...however I did get 5 days off any housework...BONUS! Training was going good (for once) then I had a trip down to London for the tour series race launch which was a fun day out. On my way back from the launch I raced Castle Coombe and managed to get up there in the sprint with men so that's always good as they hate; which makes it even better! I didn't really want to travel back from Castle Coombe as that would mean it would be exam day the day after. My time keeping isn't the best and I was late to my exam but I managed to pass...FLUKE!
After my exam I then thought I could chill out for a few days before Hillingdon on Sunday...but I was wrong with a 10 o'clock run to Matt Rowes to pick up my license (which I left with him at the race when I made my trip to hospital) the night before the race. I was pretty stressed and so was Dale as I dragged him along for the ride!
The race ended on a more positive note with me winning (joint first) and Annie and Ella both doing amazing rides! Back to college for me today for more exams! Fun!
Catch you soon : )
