Hannah - racing at home and abroad
By Hannah Rich - Horizon Racing Fitness Team
The 3rd round of the Women's Series took place at Hillingdon, with Horizon Fitness being represented with a relatively small team of just me, Dani King, and Alex Greenfield. The race went well, considering we were outnumbered by quite a few of the other teams, with all of us showing our aggression to take the racing by each of us winning a prime.
Coming into the finale of the race, I had good legs and wanted to make sure the team sealed the win by leading Dani out for a full lap, making sure no last minute attacks spoilt our race. With Dani winning the bunch sprint it turned out to be perfect!
Away from racing, training is going really well at the minute, with the help of not having to go into college except for my exams and practical assessments. I'm really looking forward to the up-and-coming races with the team.
My next big block is when I go out to Belgium to get an experience of International women's racing, and take part in the bigger European race scene. I will be going out with Annie Simpson on the 27th of May, and Dani will be out there already, so it will be good to have the girls out there to race and train with, and show me the ropes. I will be out there for 10 days, and hope to take part in as many races as possible. Hopefully it will help me step up a level.
On the local scene, I have done the first two rounds of Castle Coombe Summer Series Handicaps, and felt really good in both of them. Getting a top 15 in both rounds, sprinting against the elites, has given me really good morale and confidence. I'm racing tomorrow evening in another local handicap race, with a bit more of a rolling circuit and a good field pre-entered. I can't wait to get stuck into racing again.
