It's road trip time!

By Annie Simpson - Horizon Fitness Racing Team

It has been non-stop since I finished university for the Summer on Tuesday. I'm now out in Belgium after a long night of travelling. I set off yesterday (Thursday) at 7pm to meet team mate Hannah Rich near the M25, then on to Dover for our ferry at 2am. The drive went pretty smoothly to London, nice and quiet.

I met Hannah at the services to find she has a LOT of stuff with her! Bearing in mind I have a Micra, it was a fair squeeze, but we rammed it all in. We were using Coca Cola and Bourbons to stay awake.

Sleeping on the ferry was hard; we were just on some really uncomfy chairs, trying our hardest to sleep, but it was difficult. We got to Belgium around 5am, and then I had to quickly adjust to driving on the other side of the road as it was my first time.

With Hannah's support I managed to get the hang of it, the banter was high, and we were excited to get there. Until we hit morning rush hour, and then we needed the toilet and didn't realise in Belgium you had to pay!

We arrived here at Tielt Winge (the team base) at around 8.30am. We had breakfast, quickly got unpacked, then headed out on a ride for two and a half hours with the girls from the house. I'm in Belgium now until about the 14th June. I want to race as much as possible to get experience and a feel for the racing, and also to help my team mates in races. Our first race is this weekend in Holland, which is really exciting. My knee seems to be holding together, and my legs are feeling ready to race! Can't wait!

Now we are just going to chill out for the rest of the day in the sun...This is the life!

I will keep you posted on how it goes out here.
